Design tips for picking brand colors
A quick primer on the principles behind every palette we generate.
Brand psychology
Color carries meaning before a single word is read. Blue signals trust and stability, green reads as growth or health, warm oranges feel energetic and approachable, and deep neutrals feel premium. Choose a dominant hue that matches how you want to be perceived, not just what you personally like.
Color harmony
Strong palettes follow a relationship on the color wheel: complementary (opposite hues) for bold contrast, analogous (neighboring hues) for calm cohesion, or triadic for balanced variety. A primary, a secondary, and a single accent is usually enough — resist the urge to add a sixth "just in case" color.
Accessibility
A beautiful palette that's unreadable isn't a good palette. Aim for WCAG AA at minimum: 4.5:1 contrast for body text and 3:1 for large text and UI components. Never rely on color alone to communicate status — pair it with icons, labels, or text.
Contrast
Contrast isn't only about accessibility — it's how hierarchy is read at a glance. Your text color should sit clearly apart from your background and surface tones so headings, body copy, and buttons are instantly distinguishable without conscious effort.
Dark mode
Don't just invert your light palette. Dark surfaces should be dark gray rather than pure black to avoid harsh edges, saturated accent colors often need to be slightly desaturated or lightened so they don't vibrate against a dark background, and body text should be an off-white rather than pure white for comfortable reading.
Frequently asked questions
Is this palette generator really powered by AI?
This tool uses a language model to generate palettes dynamically based on your business description. Each palette is unique and tailored to your specific needs.
Can I use these colors commercially?
Yes. Colors and HEX codes are not copyrightable, so every palette generated here is free to use in any commercial or personal project.
How do I use the CSS variables in my project?
Click "Copy CSS" on any palette to copy a ready-to-paste `:root { --color-primary: ... }` block, then paste it into your global stylesheet.
What's the difference between Background and Surface?
Background is your page's base color, while Surface is used for cards, panels, and elevated elements sitting on top of it — usually a subtly different shade for depth.
Will these palettes work for dark mode?
Some generated palettes are dark by default. For a light palette, you can convert it into an accessible dark counterpart using a dark mode generator.
How many palettes are generated per request?
Three. Each one is a distinct, complete color system so you can compare different moods and directions before committing.
